  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 2 pounds ground turkey
  • 1 onion finely diced
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • 1 28  can diced tomatoes
  • 3 8oz can tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp chili poweder
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 15oz cans kidney beans
  • assorted toppings like sour cream or cheese
  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium high heat. Add the turkey and season with 1 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper. Cook breaking up the meat with a spoon until turkey is browned and cooked through.
  2. Add the onion to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes or until softened. Add the garlic an cook for another 30 seconds.
  3. Place the turkey in the slow cooker along with the tonatoes, tomato sauce, chicken broth, chili powder, cumin, paprika cocoa power, sugar and remaining 1/2 tsp salt.
  4. Stir to combine, then cook on low for 8 hours. Add the beans and cook for an additional 20 minutes. Add toppings if desired.
